שדה המחול הישראלי העכשווי הומה פעילות, הוא מורכב ויוצא דופן בהיקפו, רווי בהתייחסות להקשרים תרבותיים, היסטוריים, חברתיים ופוליטיים מקומיים, ובעל זיקות עמוקות למחול הבינלאומי. הפודקאסט מאיר תופעה ייחודית זו ומייצר שיח מושכל ומהנה לציבור הרחב.

ישראליות וקנון ביצירתו של אוהד נהרין ׳קיר׳ (1990) להקת בת-שבע
בפרק הראשון של חיות מחול אנחנו חוזרות לשנת 1990 וליצירתו פורצת הדרך של אוהד נהרין, קיר, שנוצרה עבור להקת בת-שבע.
באמצעות ראיונות עם שותפים ליצירה, חוקרי מחול, מוזיקאים, אנשי חינוך ותרבות – אנחנו בוחנות כיצד היצירה הזו חוללה שינוי בתפיסת הגוף הרוקד, בשפה של המחול המקומי, ובעיצוב הקאנון התרבותי בישראל. הפרק מתחקה אחר הקשרים היסטוריים, פוליטיים ואמנותיים, ממסורת ריקודי העם, דרך הכוריאוגרפיה של "אחד מי יודע" שהפכה לריקוד קנוני שמסמן זהות ישראלית, ועד הפרשנויות הפוליטיות לאירוע "פעמוני היובל", ורגעי מחאה על חופש הביטוי.

Israeliness and canon in Ohad Naharin's ׳Kyr׳ (wall in Hebrew) (1990)
Batsheva Dance Company
In the first episode of Creatures of Dance, we go back to 1990 and to Ohad Naharin’s groundbreaking creation Kyr (‘Wall’), made for the Batsheva Dance Company. Through interviews with collaborators, dance scholars, musicians, educators, and cultural figures, we explore how this work transformed perceptions of the dancing body, reshaped the language of local dance, and influenced the making of Israel’s cultural dance canon. The episode traces historical, political, and artistic contexts—from the legacy of Israeli folk dance and the choreography of Echad Mi Yodea, ("Who Knows One?") which became an embodied canonical symbol of Israeli identity, to political interpretations of Israel’s Jubilee Bells event and moments of protest around freedom of expression.
